GSE FM Russia: GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) Service Element Forest Monitoring in Russia - Stage II

The implementation Stage 2 of GSE Forest Monitoring aims to enhance the results from the consolidation Stage 1 (2003-2004) in a period between 2005 and 2008.

GSE Forest Monitoring is a unique element of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) Joint Initiative. The goal of stage II is to implement a fully operational system for a larger community of end user. It is a strictly user oriented independent information system that provides key environmental information to European, national and local users.

GSE Forest Monitoring supplies accurate, timely and readily available information on the state of forest systems in order to support more informed decisions and improved policies that enable sustainable forest management and related activities.

The GSE Forest Monitoring component is funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and is coordinated by the GAF AG.
